That a HomeLink garage door opener was a $1,750 option on the first gen IS300.
Seventeen- hundred and fifty dollars. For. A. Garage door. Opener.

The early 2000's, what a time to be alive

Damn, mine has one, never knew, but hey there has to be at least $25 worth of electronics involved so why the hell not? I just installed new garage openers and the homelink doesn't work anymore. I want my money back.

I’ve never gotten my home link to work on my Subaru. Still have the push button garage door opener, works fine. It was OEM not a paid option on my car.

Neat, I have that.

Despite costing over $44k new, my E92 lacks powered seats, leather, auto dimming mirrors, and key less entry.

Sales: How does this work?
Engineering: Oh it’s a radio tran smitter that sends a 315 MHz signal to the receiver in the garage door opener, which activates a relay that opens or closes your garage door.
Sales: Jesus. That sounds like it’s from the future. Make sure there’s a comma in that price.

I’ve been shopping for used rear view mirrors to retrofit homelink onto my older cars. It’s nice that you can get this for less than a c-note now.

Please tell me it wasn’t a stand-alone option and it was bundled with other options.

FWIW, Homelink was originally envisioned as a home automation system, the kinds that we’re just now seeing hit the market. Unfortunately, unless you had a degree in electrical engineering and several thousand dollars to spend...it was just a garage door opener.

Even that wasn’t enough, because any time you tried to find the HomeLink components, they were either discontinued or yet to be released.

I vaguely recall both that being the goal for HomeLink and the ultimate demise as well.

IS300s came more or less fully loaded with the exception of an LSD and the HomeLink, and this was a stand-alone $1,750 option.

Well, guess Lexus was getting their pound of flesh one way or another.

I drove a Q60 this week that didn’t even have heated seats. Pretty sure the seats were pleather, too. It looks like they start at 42k. My 13 year old VW that was 19.5k new has both those features.
The Q did have power seats, keyless, and a dimming rear view. But it was cold AF and my back was sore so I really wanted heated seats lol
